In March 2019 the Cabinet of Barbados approved the Barbados National Energy Policy 2019 - 2030 which has as its main goals to transition Barbados to 100% renewable energy and to be carbon neutral by 2030. In order to attain these goals the energy mix must be converted from its current fossil fuel elements to renewable energy elements such solar, wind, biomass and waste to energy.
The Division of Energy in the Ministry of Energy Small Business and Entrepreneurship via the technical assistance programme with the Inter-American Development Bank is conducting a Wind Energy Sector Development Study. The objective of this study is to recommend Policy Guidelines and Operational Procedures that can be used to develop legislation and regulations to govern the development of renewable energy from wind resources in general. In addition, the study will also provide recommendations that can be used to develop community wind projects.

Over the last six (6) months, the study was conducted by the DNV GL, a wind energy development specialist, who has submitted a number of deliverables. A critical aspect of the study is to conduct consultations during the week of November 16 - 27 , 2020 both at the institutional and community levels. To this end, the Ministry has attached the key documents for your review which will be discussed at these consultations.
