The Ministry of Energy and Business (MEB), with support from RELP as transaction advisor, the Global Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), the Inter- American Development Bank (IDB) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) have developed the procurement documents to competitively procure 60MW (240MWh) of BESS to be provided to the BLPC. This will enable the provision of solutions to the Public Grid, as well as contribute to achieving the goal of Net Zero by 2035.
In accordance with the Integrated Resource and Resiliency Plan 2021 (“IRRP”) and the Electricity Supply Act, 2024 (“ESA”) and its related regulations, the Renewable Energy Procurement Committee (“Committee”) through the Ministry of Energy and Business calls for the submission of Bids for the procurement of a total of 60 MW (240 MWh) of Energy Storage Services to the Barbados Light and Power Company Limited (“BLPC”), acting as the Buyer, which will be made available through Battery Energy Storage Systems (“BESS”) Projects to be installed at different sites across Barbados.
